Description
As any animal professional knows, cats and other small pets may become frightened or aggressive when they’re in a new, unfamiliar place, like a veterinarian’s office. You can use the Feral Cat & Small Mammal Den from Humaniac™ as a portable cage to help mitigate fear and aggression.
The Flat-Top version of this feral cat den provides an elevated perch for cats to sit on. Unit comes complete with front/side doors and locking pin. The Molded Handle version also comes complete with front/side doors, and has a lifetime warranty on the den only (warranty does not include front or side doors or any moving parts). The Molded Handle den does not require a locking pin. Replacement parts can be ordered separately.
Both models of the dens are designed to provide a frightened animal a quiet hiding place. Secure the animal inside by closing the porthole door, then remove the den and animal from the cage for cleaning, treatment or transport. Completely eliminates risk of handler injury, while providing an enclosed, stress-free environment for the animal. Fits in any cage larger than 24″ X 24″.

Meanwhile I have 4 of these in use, one of them is the flat top design. My employer bought some molded ones upon my recommendation. Flat top pros: Can be stacked, or the cat can sit on top. Cons: easier to break on the welded seams than the molded den. Changed its shape when left (empty!) in a hot car. The round side door can easily go past the stop bracket and get stuck there. No spring to hold door shut or open. Molded den pro: Sturdier than the flat top den, the sliding track of the front door provides a secure stop for the round door. Cons: Can’t stack or accommodate cat sitting on top. Round door spring popping off easily.
Overall these feral dens are an important tool for anyone involved in TNR. Some minor design flaws got it 4/5 stars.

Hi Marion, thank you so much for sharing your experience with our Feral Cat and Small Mammal Dens. We really value this kind of boots-on-the-ground feedback!
You’re absolutely right that the material and manufacturing process of the flat-top dens makes them less impact-resistant if dropped, so they do need a bit of extra care during setup. We also appreciate the heads-up regarding high-heat environments, have never heard this before, but good to know.
A couple of quick tips for your dens:
Door Tension: If the side doors are moving too freely, you can simply tighten the screw that attaches the door to the den. This adds resistance, making the door stay in place and allowing the side-stop to hold it open much more securely.
The ‘Spring’ Mystery: You mentioned a round door spring, but our dens are actually designed without springs. We want to make sure we understand exactly what you’re seeing—could you reach out to us at [email protected] with a photo? We’d love to make sure your setup is working perfectly. Thanks again for helping us improve!”
